cannot send mail from one account, password refused
Not without some considerable trial and error, I have successfully (manually) configured 3 email accounts in Thunderbird. All accounts can (and do) receive mail. One account refuses to send mail; giving an error message "could not log in, incorrect password". The account in question is an old hotmail account now handled by outlook.com.
When creating this account in Thunderbird I configured it manually using the best information I could find on the net:
Acct. Name: <myname>@hotmail.com
Outgoing server (SMTP): smtp-mail.outlook.com (port 587); Normal password; STARTTLS
Server Type: IMAP Mail Server
Server Name: imap-mail.outlook.com; (port 993).
SSL/TLS
Normal password.
Please note that I can access this account at Outlook.com (and send & receive mail) using the same password that fails in Thunderbird. Also worth mentioning: I reconfigured this account in Thunderbird to a POP3 with appropriate settings; but it still fails to send email.
