Thunderbird still hanging up.
So far, I've gone thru all of the recommendations people have given me for this problem and nothing has worked. When typing an email, everything freezes up. Some times it will free up after a few seconds, other times after a few minutes. I can not find any error logs showing why. Here is the troubleshooting info. I've taken everything away from F secure. I can't attach the file with the info so I will include it inline. Can TB be refreshed like FF? Without loosing anything?

Good general information on Performance issues.
Thanks for providing Troubleshooting Information. I notice you have hardware acceleration enabled. Suggest you disable this to see if things improve. 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab or 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab uncheck: 'Use hardware acceleration when available' click on OK
All sorts of things can cause a slowdown. Updates being performed in the background can do it. eg: Windows update, Java, Adobe etc - these you set to check and notify you instead of just updating by default. Then you can choose a better time for updating. Anti-Virus software will also get updates, but you may prefer to have these auto updated.

OK. All that has been done and will now need to wait and see.
I need to state very clearly that the hanging up only occurs when typing an email. I will get maybe a complete sentence typed and then will have to wait until TB makes up it's mind to allow more.

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab01
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode
Does the problem go away?

After your PC restarts to the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
"...restarts to the Choose an option screen" never happens.
I spent some time trying to get there thru the Control Panel and that just produces dead ends.
Any ideas about what to try next? I'll keep playing with it tonight to see if there is a path to safe start Win10.
Tks, Al
Microsoft really is a pain when it comes to their new supposedly easy method of accessing Safe Mode with Networking. I can appreciate your difficulty as I had to do this on daughters laptop when I was getting a BSOD due to graphics driver not being updated correctly. Try the info at this link as it is more detailed with images.
Thanx. I will let you know if this works. However, not for a couple days.
did it work?
In the meantime, how about starting Thunderbird in its own safe mode?

You have a couple of add-ons I am not familiar with. They both appear to be related to zooming and I infer that means you have issues with text size. If so, there are better ways of adjusting text size without using add-ons.

(I need to update that article. In current Thunderbird, "Western" has been replaced by "Latin" and "Other writing systems" now implies Unicode.)
