Switched to IMAP and ended up with two inboxes (w8dn & weightdn@...). Switched to unified folders to get all emails into one location. I get numerous emails from numerous email lists so need to create folders and filter emails into appropriate folder. Can I do this as set up or will I need to go back to POP server?

Thanks, Mike / W8DN

Yep. Local Folders account is provided by Thunderbird for just this purpose; a generalized account-independent storage location. Filters can be found under Tools|Message Filters. Right-clicking the sender in a message header will also suggest creating a filter.

With Thunderbird, you will by default have a distinct set of folders for each account. Thus gives you the option to keep all accounts separate (some users demand this) and alternatively, you can use Saved Searches, Unified folders and Local Folders to amalgamate accounts (other users demand this too!)

Thanks Zenos. I just had to sort thru the differences between these 'new' folders and the old 'pop 3' folders I was more accustomed to. So far so good with the new system. Now I need to learn more about IMAP and its benefits.

Thanks, Mike
