Typically corporate websites have a store locator that will ask you to share your location. That part works fine, i can share my location. But every single time, the map will simply show me at a totally different location. It seems to be showing me at a generic location in the CBD, postal code 2000 when my real postal code is 2033.

Why is it doing this? The location sharing used to work fine and would give my real location. Now, it does not, it just defaults to post code 2000.

Is this a problem with firefox or something else?

P.S. Please do not tell me to wipe my profile.

Hi Question2, Is this geolocation? or a location stored on a website? You can clear the cache for the site that has the corrupt location by going to about:permissions and looking for the site and clicking "forget site"

I hope this helps.

Im not sure what you mean but its not a location stored on a website, its a map, you get a popup asking to share your location, but the location always turns out to be incorrect.

What does this page say about your location? http://whatismyipaddress.com/

It gives me an accurate location.

But for something like http://kfc.com.au/find-a-store/ it tells my postal code is 2000 which is not correct.

Hi Question2, If the setting is different for certain websites then it most likely is a stored preference.

Right click on the kfc page, for example. And select View Page Info. From here click on the Permission and scroll down to "Access your Location". Are the same settings applied here to always ask?

To change the default to always ask may clear the stored data in the browser.[about:permissions] is the page to manage the location preference.

Try to clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
