I just updated Firefox to the newest version. Firefox now will not start. I get no error messages. I have navigated to the Mozilla Firefox folder and tried to run it from that location and that did not work either. Thanks Calvin

I backed up my profile tried to run it again to no avail. It would not create a new profile. I uninstalled it completely and removed all folders associated with it. Then cleaned the registry. Reinstalled it and now it works fine. Not sure what happened but it is working now. Thanks Calvin

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if it opens?

  • Windows: Hold the SHIFT key while double clicking the Firefox icon on your Desktop
  • Mac: Hold the OPTION key while double clicking Firefox in your Applications folder
  • Linux: Run the firefox -safe-mode command in your Terminal/Konsole (Ubuntu/Kubuntu)

If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

I had tried that and also tried starting it to open the profile manager with the -p option. Neither worked. I am on Windows 7. Thanks Calvin

Please create a new profile to see if your current profile configuration is messing up.

Hello,

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
