Firefox takes me to Google Search when I click on some urls. Chrome works on those same urls.

I get emails from Classmates.com that have urls to visit their site. Those urls just bring up a Google Search screen on Firefox. They work properly on Chrome. An example is: http://www2.pplcnhld.com/e/Zx16CGFaPe9wqU2oqlxm8Q%7E%7E/AAAAAQA%7E/RgRdhmY3P0EIAK0tDqIh-AdIIVBST0ZJTEVfQUNUSVZJVFl8UkVNSU5ERVJ8MjAxNzA2QUIKAAI34aNbTztntFIRamRoZGVoQGhpd2FheS5uZXQJUQQAAAAAhDABaHR0cDovL3d3dy5jbGFzc21hdGVzLmNvbS9nby94LzQwNDkwNjY0MS9QT1MyfENCX0hFQURFUl9NUFIxfEQxLzZmMzZjYzRhfjQwNDkwNjY0MX5QUk9GSUxFX0FDVElWSVRZLVJFTUlOREVSLTIwMTcwNkF-MjAxODA5MjAwMjAyNDQwMzAvUEc1ODA3LzY4OWQ3ZTJmODQ5MzY5Y2M1ZTE1MzdkMDUyODZmMTY2LzQwNDkwNjY0MT9zPWVtYWlsJkNBTVA9UFJPRklMRV9BQ1RJVklUWXxSRU1JTkRFUnwyMDE3MDZBJlRFTVA9U0lOR0xFX0NPTFVNTiZTTE9UPVBPUzJ8Q0JfSEVBREVSX01QUjF8RDEmUFJPRD1Qcm9maWxlX0FjdGl2aXR5X1N1bUeieyJyZWdpZCI6IjQwNDkwNjY0MSIsImNnIjoiUHJvZmlsZV9BY3Rpdml0eV9TdW0iLCJicmFuZCI6ImNsYXNzbWF0ZXMiLCJnZW5lcmF0ZWRlbWFpbGlkIjoiNmYzNmNjNGF-NDA0OTA2NjQxflBST0ZJTEVfQUNUSVZJVFktUkVNSU5ERVItMjAxNzA2QX4yMDE4MDkyMDAyMDI0NDAzMCJ9

It's puzzling. When I follow that link, the server sends back a redirect to http://www.google.com/

In my case, I might suspect this is because I'm not logged into the site -- which the site could detected by the cookies sent with my request -- and so I'm not supposed to access that link. However, why would they send me to Google instead of their login page??

I think it's a good question to raise with the site if you have an account there.

Thanks. Note though, that this does not happen when I paste this url into Chrome. This makes me think that Firefox is doing something.

Hi, please test in : SAFE MODE

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Performance > Uncheck to view)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

TEST''''is issue still there ?
