While on web page a message popped up about mozilla firefox blocking an attempt to hack my personal data. It said to call 1(888) 556-0166. Voice came on also insisting my computer may already be infected by a trojan. Something about it seemed strange to me so I have not called. Could you verify if this is a scam or not? Thanks for the help

If you get a pop-up message asking to update Firefox or plugins or scanning for malware then such a message is likely a scam and you should NEVER respond to such an alert to avoid getting infected with malware.

  • only update Firefox via "Help -> About" or by downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla server and never via a pop-up or link on a web page.
  • plugins should only be updated via the plugin itself or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

Got the same thing but a different number. Also a trojan. Wasnt the first time it happened, so got curious and called the number. They wanted to connect to my computer so I hung up. A damn Indian on the phone and could barely understand a word he said. What chaps me it takes forever to get off your screen and able to use computer.
