I have been using Thunderbird for 20+ years, maybe as many as 30. Forever. I have moved my profile across several versions of Windows and multiple computers. There are files in the root of the profile with a modified date of 2009. There may be older ones in sub-directories. There are 18 folders and 125 files. I suspect a lot of this is clutter left over from earlier versions of Thunderbird. In the Mail folder alone there are several hundred files and folders excluding the WDSEML files and actual emails.

I'm toying with the idea of starting fresh with a clean install of Thunderbird and getting on the correct release channel but I don't want to bring along what appear to be hundreds or thousands of unused files and folders.

I there anyone that can identify what profile files and folders to keep and what can be deleted?

What I want to do is to is export just the headers of emails on IMAP folders with an Excel VBA macro so that I can write filters to import into Thunderbird for deletion of old new letters and things of that nature, keeping only the important emails.

Knowing the message filter file format would also be nice considering that I can then just mass edit the filters without needing to recreate them each pass.

When I trash an email, I can no longer view the attachments in the trash file, though the email itself remains until the setting for trash deletion has been reached. Since I have a gmail email address I can still view the attachments via the website for gmail. Does the attachment disappear on Thunderbird because of a setting - or is this a "feature" of Thunderbird?

My old laptop died, and just reinstalled TB on new laptop. I have the SSD with old profile, and added profile to the new Profiles folder. Thought it would be as simple as editing the Profile.ini to specify the old profile, but that hasn't worked. Need help.

Hello, I have a problem. I'm a Thunder Birth email client user. Until now, the default program for opening PDF files was Adobe Acrobat Reader. I was forced to delete it and replace it with Foxid PDF Editor. I changed the default PDF opening programs in Thunder Birth settings, see attachment number 1. Unfortunately, when composing a new message, I'm having trouble viewing PDF attachments. See attachment number 2. Please help.

I use Thunderbird on my desktop and since early June, I have not been able to receive any new messages but I can still send. Everything works fine on webmail (Yahoo) and phone (Samsung Galaxy), it's just my desktop which is affected . I asked Duck AI about this and this is what I got...

I have a friend who send me things that I often like to share with others who are on a distribution list. He is also a member of that group. When I forward what he sent me to the group, I would like to exclude him from receiving that mail. How can I do this without removing him from the group list each time?
