Today's announcement re Thundermail brings me back to an old gripe of mine - which doesn't bother me, but might one reason some new users are put off.

Many email users are used to the full-fat reply header which they have been used to in Outlook and other email clients/webmails. (From/To/Subject/Date/CC etc) When a new user first replies to an email, they will only get the basic Unix legacy "On [date] [name] said:" This took me back when I first used TB, back at something like v7, but I soon found the Reply With Header add-on. However, the existence of this add-on or even its name vs. function is not obvious, and a new user may simply find that the cut-down header does not meet their requirements and simply looks elsewhere for a client. If the ReplyWithHeader add-on functionality ever disappeared, I would also be quitting TB (though finding an equally good program would be hard, but not impossible.)

Now, the code to do the full reply header is already in TB, as it is placed into a Forward message. So, as I see it, TB could very usefully (a) default to the full header for replies as well as forwards, and (b) include a simple long/short reply header option under Preferences - many mobile Apps already have this (Bluemail for example). This would remove one possible negative experience for a new user.

I updated to Thunderbird v.136 last month and lost the ability to customize the color of text when either creating a new message or replying to a received message.

In Settings on the Composition screen under HTML Style, I select a blue color for Text Color but when I compose a message I only get black. Before I click in the area of the message to type text, the color box shows the blue color, but as soon as I click in the area to compose text, the color box changes immediately to black.

After I have typed that black text, if I select the text & click on the color box to change to color to blue (or any other color), the text stays black.

How can I have colored (non-black) text in messages I compose?

I may be blind...., but I cant find a send mail or new mail to invoke the mail composer...

Using the Thunderbird beta

There is a shortcut available - well and good, and if the menu is selected, a new mail menu item on the dropdown also allow you to invoke the composer with your mouse

But I don't see a friendly (preferably large and prominent) create new mail button anywhere ???

I am finally making the move to ditch Microsoft Outlook for good and use Thunderbird as my daily driver for all my email needs. One of the things I did appreciate about MS Outlook is that it has a setting where if you've opened up an email and either delete it or move it to a sub-folder, you can set it so that the program will open either the next or the previous email in your list automatically so that you don't have to go back to the main view every time.

I've tried searching the support forums to see if such a feature exists in Thunderbird but I have not yet been lucky in finding any recent information. Does such a feature exist or has someone written an extension that can do this?

Hi,

I need help on topic "Outlook, PST, EML and local folders".

I have .. - Win 10, 64 bit - Outlook 2010 - current thunderbird, first time installed 10 days ago (newbie!) - a huge, locally stored PST file with a lot of folders, like "in_2014 / In_2015 / .. / Out_2014 / Out_2015"

I want .. - to have access to the mails in the PST with Thunderbird.

I did .. - read some information and found that there is no direct access - install ImportExportTools NG - tried to import "Via Outlook", but failed: "No profile found". I think Outlook 2010 is too old - install "Outlook Viewer" from CoolUtils. Opened the PST, exported a lot of EML-files, one for every single mail. - defined a "Local folder", called "in_2014" - copied the EMLs to this folder. They appear in the folder-tree of Thunderbird, but not as single "mails". I have to open (doubleclick) every EML to see the mail. - tried to "Import" the data (one by one / many together / from folder) to the local folder, but got a long error message with a lot a strange error-codes - tried to export data from PST to one single EML with many mails in it. Failed, the software does not offer this feature. - tried to "Import" the EML to a folder of a mail account. This was successful, but only the first step. - tried to move / copy the currently imported mails from mail-account to my local folder: failed again without reaction and without message.

What can I do now? How to get mails from a PST to a locally stored, Thunderbird readable structure?

Thanks in advance for help.

Gotta say I'm rather disappointed with the Mozilla support community forum here. It seems very poorly set up, unless I'm missing something. Perhaps I'm just missing the forum formatting page here.

The post form starts with asking "Which topic best describes your question" - well none of the ones offered. e.g. this question is about support, and that doesn't fit a category.

For technically literate users, often questions and posts will have code snippets etc in them, but there doesn't seem to be formatting support beyond bold, italic, links and bulleted lists? Is that right? No markdown for code?

Code with four spaces leading - does that work?

three quotes separated text

   fenced code block?
   Does this work at all?

Not seeing a preview your question button either, so one posts blindly without knowing if it's legible or not.

When I've tried to paste some detailed email header info in a question it was terribly displayed which can't help getting community analysis and input.

These aren't new features for community forums. One would think them standard.

Is there a posting guide for this support forum that provides formatting info that I might be missing? Is there another support discussion page somewhere else - perhaps stackExchange is more active?

Good Morning,

Thunderbird is working well on my phone (mobile data?) and no longer working on my desktop.

We did cancel a TV service this morning with our ISP and had to reboot the router to get internet back up and working.

The only thing now that isn't working is my desktop Thunderbird.

Can anyone help with some trouble-shooting tips?

Thanks so much!
