Unable to migrate old email from Windows 7 to Mint in Thunderbird

I just moved from Windows 7 to Mint and am attempting to transfer my old email folders from Windows. I have tried all sorts of things with no luck. If I follow directions from others on line I find I can transfer all folders but I am not able to log in to my gmail pop account. If I use a clean install ti works fine but no old folders available. Rather then attempting to move my entire Windows TB profile to Mint, is there a way to just move the relevant folders like the ones in .thunderbird/....../Mail/'Local Folders'/xxx.sbd? Been playing with this for over 6 hours with no success.

It would help if you could state what prevents you from logging in to your account.

If I use a clean install ti works fine but no old folders available.

My best guess would be the account is properly set up as IMAP one, which works right away.

So I guess the first thing for you would be to decide what type of account you want.

When you move a profile between Windows and Linux or OS X, logins often don't work due to an incompatibility in one of the profile files. Delete or rename the pkcs11.txt file in the profile folder:

Copy the Thunderbird folder from the Windows PC to the Linux PC, then delete the file:

Well, I deleted and started the process of reloading loading TB. I deleted pkcs11.txt from my Windows default directory. I went to /home/me/.thunderbird and renamed the 'new .default' created by the reload. After this I copied the Windows default directory and renamed it 'new.default'. I now have my entire Windows TB folder structure. The first time launching TB and requesting my emails, it asks for the pop password. If I leave the option for saving the password unchecked, it doesn't ask for passwords again until I restart TB. Same procedure when I try to send the first email.

Still looking for a fix...

new device requires new permissions from Google. Try looking on their web site at your apps permissions and make sure you or they have not inadvertently blocked your linux box for POP which I am guessing you were using. Your new default will be IMAP.

Thanks for the response. All looks good on the Google end. Nothing blocked. Set up for pop. Still getting sign-in requests for first download and upload of the day.

try deleting or renaming the key3.db, key4.db and logins.json file with Thunderbird closed. It might fix some corruption if the password files is started again in this manner.
