I am unable to access my mails on Greenby with Thunderbird and I suspect the password is incorrect. I can read my mails on the Greenby server and know the necessary password but cannot work out how to enter this into Thunderbird! As I am no expert, a simple guide would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance. Roy

After reinstalling a Windstream.net email account I continue to have Authentication Required errors at startup. Popup messages only occurs during thunderbird startup. And Only on my Windstream.net email accounts. not my outlook.com and Gmail accounts.

the following is the popup window during Thunderbird startup.

"Authentication Required - Mozila Thunderbird https://imap.windstream.net is requesting your username and password."

I entered the username and password and check the save box. The popup returns with the same error asking for the same info. If I just select CANCEL, it pops up 2 more times and after the third cancel, the popup shows no more. The account fills with any incoming emails from Windstream.net. The Windstream.net account seams to work normal from that point on. I Can send and receive fine with no more popups. Until I restart thunderbird then this error starts all over. Is this a thunderbird or Windstream.net issue? Any suggestions on a fix? Also I have a gmail and outlook.com account with no issues.

I have been using Thunderbird for several years to read and send my Comcast.net email. As of 5/23/26 Thunderbird is no longer showing my new emails. However, when I login directly to my Comcast.net email account their are plenty of new emails.

I thought that perhaps Thunderbird is using the wrong password to try to get my comcast.net email. So I examined my password by going to Menu > Settings > Privacy & Security > Saved Passwords , which opens the "saved logins" window. Then I pressed "show passwords." I found that instead of showing my usual comcast.net password, it showed something that is bogus and several hundred characters long. I right clicked on the bogus password, selected "edit password" and entered my usual correct password. The "saved logins" window then showed the correct password. Finally I closed the "saved logins" window.

Then I opened the "saved logins" window again and confirmed that the password was still correct.

Then I exited Thunderbird and restarted it. Usually, when I start Thunderbird it simply opens my inbox window and shows me my new emails. But now a separate browser window opened from xfinity (comcast) showing my email account name and asking me to sign in. I pressed the "Let's Go" button and is prompted me for my password to the comcast.net account, which I entered. This password was entered in a browser window with URL "https://login.xfinity.com/login" so it seems legitimate. The browser window then disappeared and I assumed Thunderbird would now show my emails.

Sadly, Thunderbird did not show updated emails. So I went back to Menu > Settings > Privacy & Security > Saved Passwords and checked the password. For some reason is had changed to another, different, bogus and several hundred characters long.

I have attached a screen shot of the "Saved Logins" window showing the bogus password and another screenshot of the entire bogus passwords before and after I entered the correct password.

I have been pleased with Thunderbird for a long time, but this has me worried.

Can you give advice?

I have 3 email accounts which i unified. when log in I get prompted to enter password for all three accounts which I do, then I get prompted again to enter the password to all Password Manager to save my passwords which I do not want and therefore I uncheck it for all three; I then get prompted again for all three which I enter password, then I get imap login error on my main account which I click cancel a few times before it goes away,

I use Thunderbird portable. How do I fix this issue. it should be that one enters the password for each account once not three to four times. I do not want to use Password Manager to Save my accounts.

Also if ever I have to change password how do I do that? thank for your help.

I changed my password in my email provider. TB kept saying that it was the wrong password. After a few unsuccessful tries I rebooted tb. It worked. Then, whenever I opened tb it asked for password. I then tried checking 'password manager' and it remembered the password. Fine. Could have been easier. 1. Notice that tb requires reboot to accept password change. 2. Explanation that password manager is "remember password so you don't need to enter every time".

A little more nitpicking: For as long as I have used tb I cannot print a selection of an email. It wants to print the whole thing, along with headers. I have to select, copy, paste to notepad, then print. Could be easier.

I was recently forced to change my gmail password. All of the help messages I found tell me that after I change my email password I have to save the new password to Thunderbird and I don't know where to save it.

Recently it's a daily occurrence that I must enter the password for my SMTP server. I always check "Use Password Manager to remember this password" but it doesn't help. The next day I'll have to go through this again.

I power on my machine multiple times each day, and I use Thunderbird each time. It doesn't happen each time. It seems to happen only the first time I use Thunderbird each day. This is new behavior. Before it would happen now and then, now it's daily.

I don't have a Primary Password. No need for it.

If you need to see the message I can send it to you, but I'm not attaching it right now because it shows my email address and the smtp destination. Maybe I'm being too careful.

When I highlighted the password, it gave me only choices to edit or copy password and the only way I know how to delete a password is to click, "Remove All" and now the "Show Password" button is grayed out.

When I tried to delete my old password in "Show Passwords" by highlighting my old password and hitting the backspace key to delete it and every time I click on the background or hit "Enter", it just pops back on where it was so I couldn't correct it without having to click "Remove all" which turned off the "Show Passwords" in "Saved Passwords".

I'm having so much trouble with Apple Mail and Thunderbird saving my password and I do have an Apple User Defined Password. So, I'm constantly having to input my password. Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated!

When transferring Thunderbird Profile between PCs passwords are not transferred. Transferring Profiles between two Windows 11 PCs ( both are the same version ) the email details are transferred but no passwords are. I followed the instructions found on the forums to transfer profile between PCs

As of a few days ago, popup boxes have been appearing where Thunderbird is asking for passwords for my email addresses (I access emails from four different addresses with Thunderbird). Sometimes I will get the same popup box for a specific email address appearing several times over a few minutes. I reinstalled Thunderbird hoping that would help, but, while the popups are less frequent, they are still happening.

Also, while I have Thunderbird set up to check for new emails every 10 minutes and to download them automatically, it is only downloading emails when I shut down the program and restart it. "Get New Message For:" does not work. I know that new emails are not being automatically downloaded as I see that there are new ones at the website of my ISP.

Most of the solutions I have seen are not current, and reference settings I cannot find in my version. I have tried deleting and reentering the passwords by clicking on Saved Passwords in settings, but that did not help. Any suggestions?

Using Thunderbird to check emails and the calendar for an Infomaniak account: The account was active and working properly. After switching this account to 2FA, Thunderbird consistently requested a username and password during synchronization. After some research, the solution is as follows: you need to create a new app password with Infomaniak, then ensure that Thunderbird saves the password and that the “Require device authentication...” option is disabled. I am shifting over to TB from Windows Live Mail. I have installed TB Ver 115.16.2 on 7 computers successfully (Win 7, 10 and 11) over the past year. But on one Win 7 computer TB will not save the password. Usually TB asks for the Password during set-up. But here it asked for it in a pop-up box. Yes, I entered the correct password. Yes, I said "save with Password manager." But here it keeps asking for it, over and over. At one point TB connected to the POP download server, just long enough to download all the incoming emails, but then quit connecting. It won't connect to the SMTP server. The port numbers for POP and SMTP are correct and the security settings are correct. I've done a lot of web searching. Most sites say that profile files logins.json and key4.db may be corrupted. I disabled them (by renaming) and copied those two files from another computer on which the same Thunderbird version works properly on the same mail server. Same thing - TB still keeps asking for the POP server password. I just deleted TB (uninstalled, and deleted all the appdata directories, and verified there were no lingering registry keys using a list shown on Spiceworks). I'll next reinstall, but don't have much confidence that it will work. Thanks.

I went to Privacy and Security of the Thunderbird. I went to saved passwords. I clicked on Show passwords. I had to edit the password before I delete that old password.

This happens each time I open up T-Bird. Somtimes it is Yahoo.mail, sometimes it prompts to log onto aol.mail.com.

How can this be stopped?

I have used Thunderbird for years. Suddenly it asks for my email account password every time I send an email message. What is the problem? The passwords for my email accounts have always been stored in my configuration and it never asked for them. Very annoying.
