Wow, that's not very usable. Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

By the way, it is normal for the Java Deployment Toolkit to require site-by-site activation; there is an ongoing security issue with it.

If you are not accustomed to using the "Ask to Activate" feature for a plugin, here's what to expect:

When you visit a site that wants to use that plugin, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and usually (but not always) one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

The plugin notification icon typically looks like a small, dark gray Lego block. For some plugins, the block will be red with a white circle on it.

If you see a good reason to use that plugin, and the site looks trustworthy, you can go ahead and click the Lego-like icon in the address bar to allow the site to run it. You can trust the site for the time being or permanently.

If the plugin does not look essential, feel free to ignore the notification. It will just sit there in case you want to use it later.
