I use aol as my home page, but since the mozilla update, I cannot change pages on AOL

Since the mozilla update to version 29 I cannot turn pages on my home page of AOL.COM When I click the arrow to change the page, nothing happens. If I go into Internet Explorer the AOL pages change when I click the arrow for next page forward or backward. I have used Mozilla for years now & never had this problem before. Does it have anything to do with the update??

Each version of Firefox has some changes that website developers need to be aware of, but without hands-on access to AOL, I don't know whether they have been affected by something like that.

If you haven't already tried these things:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

3-bar menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?


In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (Flash and other plugins still run)

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

I noticed in your More System details that you have these preferences customized:

  • browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo:
    • default value = 10
    • your value = 0
  • browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo:
    • default value = 3
    • your value = 0

These settings control whether you can re-open a tab you just closed, or a window you just closed. If you do not recall intentionally changing these, you may want to reset them to give yourself that extra flexibility.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste sess and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Right-click each of the two preferences and choose Reset.
