Hi there,

so I've got this add on where I can expand the usual 3x3 thumbnail grid in the new tabs view. But now I've got a bunch of thumbnails and I want to cluster them according to their content, e.g.: facebook, youtube, twitter, etc.--> should be in one cluster "social network"; ebay, amazon, etc.--> should be in one cluster "purchase"; android-forum, java-forum, mozilla-support, etc.--> should be in one cluster "programming" etc.

What's the best way to organize your thumbnails like that?

You do not need an extension to modify the number of rows and columns.

You would only have to adjust two prefs on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.columns (3)
  • browser.newtabpage.rows (3)

The only way to organize items is to drag a specific URL to such a tile to pin each of them and drag an about:blank link to trailing squares that you do not want to use.

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag an item to a different slot to pin it to that position or you can remove a website by clicking the close X to block that URL.
You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a slot on the about:newtab page to pin them and have your own favorites sites showing.

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in the browser.newtabpage.pinned (default = [null]) and browser.newtabpage.blocked prefs that you can check/modify on the about:config page.
