Solved, please forget: Could somebody help with correct settings for using the pdf.js viewer with locally saved pdfs, please?

I'm having a problem with the integrated PDF viewer in FF 19 on WinXP, which I just tried: While it works fine for PDFs on the web, I can't get it to work with locally saved files, although I've disabled the Adobe Acrobat plug-in in the add-on manager. Doesn't seem to matter, whether I try it via the file open dialogue or by drag & drop - I always just get the usual open with/save file requester, and when I choose to open the file with FF, it'll just open a new browser window and come up with the same requester again... So I wonder what I'm doing wrong: Might I need to change another setting I'm not yet aware of, maybe? Or could it be that disabling the Acrobat plug-in simply doesn't quite work with old versions of that? Because the Acrobat Reader on the notebook I'm currently using is a very outdated 5.0.1 version.

Helpful hints would be appreciated...
