When you open link, media, in a new tab switch to it immediately not working

My tabs are not working right and changing the check mark in General - Tabs does not change anything. When I click on a Bookmark I want a new tab and focus on it. When I click on a link in a tab I want a new tab and focus, When I click on a search phrase I want a new tab and focus. I'm not getting focus. on new tabs at all except in search.
