Any product, paid or shareware, for exporting selected folders and then importing them into a second installation of Thunderbird?

I currently categorize my e-mails into specific folders, which I keep for reference, muck like a database. The active version of Thunderbird is growing quite large. I would like to be able to periodically export then delete selected folders, and then import these folders into a second installation of Thunderbird as a reference database.

Why not just move the messages to a local folder and keep them all in one profile?

There's no harm in having them all in one big profile as long as you don't daily access all the old messages. And even then I don't see any harm. Folders that aren't in active use don't take memory.
