What could cause a severe 'slowdown' after switching from Eudora OSE to Thunderbird?

When I installed Thunderbird, I was expecting a query about importing from Eudora, but, in fact, there was none, and Thunderbird just took off on its own and pulled everything (mailboxes, messages, etc.) from Eudora within seconds. Thunderbird started working. But, it seems to be having a big slowdown. It can take several 'clicks' to connect for checking email, it can stop in the midst of bringing in email, and then it can take a long time to bring it all in. I also notice (in opening Eudora) that it seems to be affected when I access Thunderbird. That is, if I bring in mail to Thunderbird, it apparently also appears in the Eudora inbox, despite the fact that Eudora is not even open. When I delete messages in Thunderbird, they are deleted in Eudora. The two systems are mimicking one another. My intent was to uninstall the Eudora program and use Thunderbird from now on, but now I am afraid to do anything for fear of losing messages and history. Are the two programs 'fighting' each other and hence the slowdown? Can I uninstall Eudora? Thank you for any ideas.

It's hard to understand what you are describing because your topic mentions OSE but your full description does not. So I don't know which mentions of "Eudora" are Eudora classic, or Eudora OSE. But I'll take a stab.

OSE is based on Thunderbird 3.0. If you install current Thunderbird (version 38) it uses the same data directory as OSE. But because of the version bumps the Gloda database must be rebuilt. That might account for the slowness. But it should last no more than a day. (And because of the version bumps you should NOT open OSE after using THunderbird).

Does that help?
