Persistent notifications of new mail
Windows 10 Thunderbird 78.8.1
Thunderbird just very recently has begun notifying me of new messages about every 60 seconds. There are no new messages; the notification shows the same messages it showed 60 seconds previously. The notification is persistent. It doesn't fade away, and it covers part of my screen so I have to dismiss it. It's getting on my nerves.
Thanks for any advice.

Do you have RSS feeds?
No I have no RSS feeds on Thunderbird.
Please post info... Menu app icon > Options >General Scroll down to 'Incoming Mails' section I presume 'Show an alert' is selected. click on 'Customise' What settings are selected and what time interval is set for length of display ? Do you have a long time set ? Does setting a new shorter time fix this issue ?
I've just updated to 78.8.1 and will watch out to see if I can reproduce, but it would be helpful to know what settings you are currently using and whether reducing the time effected the outcome.
Thank you, I have shortened the notification time, but that was a secondary problem. The main problem is that the notifications used to arrive only when I had new mail. Lately the notifications have been repeating every few minutes even when there's no new mail. Before I never even noticed how long the notification remained on the screen. The length became a problem only when I was getting notifications at very short intervals, and in the absence of any new mail.
However, today this hasn't happened yet, so maybe something has been fixed.
My hopes were not fulfilled. The persistent notifications are still continuing with Thunderbird. Every few minutes I get a notification of new mail, although there is no new mail. It's very annoying reducing the amount of time it remains on my screen isn't a solution. It covers up what I'm writing and any time is too much.
It happened twice while I was typing the above paragraph.
Please restart Thunderbird in Safe Mode and run for a while to see if this stops the repeat notifications. Please list all addon extensions which you are using. Please report back with results. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird
If safe mode doesn't help, try 78.9.0 due out end of March
I'm not sure what "Thunderbird in safe mode" means. Do you mean to start the computer in safe mode before opening Thunderbird?

No, start computer as normal, then start Thunderbird in 'Safe Mode'. I did provide a link with all the information on how to do this, but here it is again. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird Information tells you how to start Thunderbird in Safe Mode. It tells you how to do it if Thunderbird is already running and also how to do if it is not running.
