I use Firefox Portable and it still crashes for months when he gets up in memory usage. My HDD is irrelevant cause I updated from 4Gb to 8Gb RAM memory, it doesn't reach its limits but it still crashes and this goes for months... Please assist cause this is frustrated. My last two report I submitted today are those ones:

I'll try to rephrase this in case you don't understand my problem because I don't speak English very well:

I use Firefox Portable and it repeats on crashes when RAM is consuming cause of multiple tags open. My HDD's status is irrelevant (if he's empy or not) cause I updated from 4Gb to 8Gb RAM so it doesn't reach its limits but still crashes and this goes for months... Please assist because this is really frustrated. My last two reports I submitted today are these ones:

This is Firefox for Desktop. You should direct your question to where you got that version of Firefox from. https://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable

It does appear to be a memory use (OOM = Out of Memory) issue:

  • MOZ_CRASH Reason (Sanitized): [unhandlable oom] Failed to allocate slots while tenuring.
  • MOZ_CRASH Reason (Sanitized): [unhandlable oom] failed to allocate uid

Question

The Firefox you used to post this thread identified itself -- in its user agent string -- as 64-bit Firefox running on 64-bit Windows 7:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:97.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/97.0

However, the linked crash reports seem to be for 32-bit Firefox. Maybe the user agent string is inaccurate, or maybe the Portable Firefox package was not built correctly?

Puzzle

One other thing I noticed in your crash report:

  • Physical memory: 8,032 MB (8GB)
  • Maximum Virtual memory: 4,096 MB (4GB)

I'm not sure why your virtual memory is smaller than your physical memory. Is it the Windows swap file configuration? Or is this a limitation of the Portable edition?

Thank you both for your answers! I'm new here, I came by google search to a similar problem I've read around, so I posted here mine too... I'm using that portable all the time for many years and as far as I remember I found and downloaded him as a 32bit, while I was using 64bit operating system. I supposed there wasn't a 64bit portable edition, it was working fine, so I've stayed with this one all these years, updating it and having thousands of bookmarks to do my job here and there (feeding with data in web databases at most, including "IMDB", "The Movie DB", "RetroDB", "Discogs" and some other platforms) using plenty of tabs.

Sometimes I have problem with antivirus "Webroot SecureAnywhere". In some updates (of antivirus or "Firefox") I cannot even run "Firefox" or when it's already activated, suddenly I cannot open any web page! At first I was closing antivirus, but I should rerun "Firefox" to make him working properly in the meantime though, I found which specific security option I should close instead of closing whole antivirus and continued without it although it was one of the major security issues. I thought for months it was my antivirus that did all those crashes or at least it was a significant reason, but it seems it's not...

Three months ago I updated my RAM installing 8GB (2x4Gb) instead 2x2Gb I had before, so I've managed to change setting but I don't know much of that procedure and I'm wondering if I did something wrong. It shows like this now:

https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2022-03-07-12-01-55-dd239f.png

Is this wrong or I have to search for a firefox portable in 64bit. And I found him, can I bring all bookmarks as they are exactly in the new browser, without transfering them by account?

I think that currently the Firefox user agent string on a 64 bit OS is always the 64 bit version regardless whether Firefox is 32 bit or 64 bit, so the UA can't be used to determine what Firefox version is being used. With a 32 bit Firefox version you are much more likely to run into OOM issues, so why not uninstall Firefox and install the 64 bit Firefox version ?
