Hello, Not sure I completely understand the problem. Is the issue that the tabs in Firefox are opening up as new windows instead of tabs? Or is it that there are sites opening up each time you open Firefox and you can't close them? If you can explain the issue you are facing that would be helpful.

Nevertheless, you can try one thing of trying to start Firefox in safe-mode where most of the addons would be disabled - assuming the issue is because of an addon. The instructions for that are mentioned below

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

• On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
• On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
• On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
• Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Tried that didnt work, luckily for me i had a backup for the sessionstore.js and .bak files from last week, so i lost a few tabs but history can help me get those back. The problem was that once that script stopped responding i chose stop script it and every tab that i had became a new tab, like when you press the plus button for a new tab, nothing was in the address bar (no URL, nothing)

Hello, Correct me if I am wrong - so the issue was this

1. You visited a website where you saw the 'script not responding' error. You selected the 'stop script' option
2. Your browser has the option to restore the session from the previous time
3. After you stopped the script, you closed the browser
4. When the browser reopened, the same number of tabs as earlier were open - but instead of the previous sites, they are all empty tabs

No it wasn't like that. I will explain, i have about 20 tabs saved at the moment, im having a little issue ever since the latest firefox patch (or hotfix or whatever it is) the one that came out a few days ago. Whenever i launch the browser with saved tabs 90% of the time i will either get some tab script has stopped working, continue (wait for script) or stop the script, or ill get some other error relating to chromebrowser with the same options. If you click continue it will eventually start working so im not worried about losing the tabs anymore, what annoys me is that i just have to wait longer for the browser to start working properly. So until its fixed i cant recommend the firefox update to others. If i can i will provide screenshots next time the errors come up

Hi MajorFoley, I will suggest what I did. Notice the title of the message box, you will get which plugin is creating problem (in my case it was Flash plugin). Either you fix problem with the add-on, or simple deactivate it by navigating to plugins in "about:addons"

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

Back from a bit of a get away, i will post screenshots when it occurs again which shouldn't be too long, the problem is its a different script error each time, so far ive gotten 3 different errors.

ok i've screenshotted 1 of 3 error problems that comes up (as long as you click continue it fixes itself but i dont see people liking it)

it seems new ones are popping up, same solution is to just continue waiting after clicking continue, is there any headway into this?

By default, Firefox will defer loading of all the background tabs (all tabs but the active tab in each window) until you access them. Did you turn that off so Firefox went back to its old behavior of reloading all tabs when you restore your previous session? If you want to check the setting, you can find it here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs > "Don't load tabs until selected"

When the stalled or slow scripts are part of Firefox or an add-on (the chrome:// protocol indicates an internal script), unfortunately stopping them may affect multiple tabs.

Do you get any of these Continue/Stop dialogs in normal browsing? If so, perhaps that would be the place to start troubleshooting.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

• do not clear the Browsing History as that will prevent tab from the previous session to get restored

• Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

Sorry for the late reply, 44 degrees Celsius days are not my friend :( Nah none of those ways are what i mean. What happens is while firefox is loading a script becomes unresponsive but will start responding if you click continue, the common element between them is that they start with "chrome" in the scrip line. I backup my sessionstore.js and bak ever since i started getting blue screens. I dont use clear history either.

11mb yes i know i have alot of tabs open :D i will be cleaning them up sometime this week. Speaking of, im about to install an SSD and i need to transfer my session, ive already saved the profile folder just in case but i want a surefire way to transfer my tabs/bookmarks/etc over. Is there a program or something that can help me with this?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Why would adobe be the cause? Also latest patch seems to have made it worse, takes longer for the pop up saying the script has stopped working to come up.

Hi MajorFoley, if you have a particular Windows 7 update, any page using Flash can cause Firefox to freeze and then eventually display the script stop/continue dialog. The workaround is to disable the protected mode of the Flash player plugin.
