The bookmarks are non-functional in the bookmarks menu and the toolbars. How do you fix this?
My problem started when I upgraded from FF11 to FF14. The related fixes and suggestions I have read do not solve the problem. I do not get any error message during the running of Firefox. All that happens is that the bookmarks don't work. I have restarted firefox, and rebooted the computer to no avail. Any suggestions?

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can try to check and repair the places database with this extension:
I just found out that if I open my bookmarks in another tab, the bookmarks actually work. What doesn't work is opening in the same window, or creating a new tab and opening in that tab. I am also able to add bookmarks, since I just bookmarked this page. I also just tried to delete a bookmark, and I can do that too.
I have also tried your suggestions by following your links: deleting places.sqlite then restarting; installing the Places maintenance plugin, and ran several checks including Deep Check. The behaviour persists.
