yahoo toolbar added itself to firefox and I cannot get rid of it. I want it gone, not merely hidden. Add/remove programs does not work

how to delete (completely) toolbars and items from the menu bar that added themselves. I tried add/remove programs and removed them, but they (yahoo) show up on the menu bar . Annoying!
