Anyone know when HTML 5 support will come come for offline Gmail, Calendar

So, I've upgraded to Firefox 4 and am enjoying the blazing speed.

Now Google apps need to catch up too. Gmail, Calendar and some others have, in previous versions of Firefox, had an offline feature where you can browse old emails and view your calendar while offline.

Now with FF4 this is gone. Google has said it will use the new HTML5 features natively available in FF4 and other browsers to restore this functionality (previously it used Gears but has stopped developing this in preference for using HTML5).

Does anyone know when this might happen? I and others have posted in Google Groups asking this question but currently everyone is in the dark.

Google says it has been working with the Mozilla folks so maybe someone here knows where Google is at. They've posted information about new APIs for offline caching - does this mean Google itself will not develop the plugins and it will be up to Extension Devs to fill the gap?

Update: According to this article (Computerworld Malaysia ) It will be available 'before the end of the year'.

Come on Google get your act together! You are trashing your own product range!

"Taking away Docs' offline features probably didn't help Google position that Apps suite " - too right!
