Why doesn't Power Point Reader open automatically in Firefox when I try to open a .pps email attchmt? It defaults to IE instead.

When I attempt to open an email attachment which is a Power Point file, and I click on "Open" in the "Open With" dialogue box it diverts me to IE which then opens the attchmt in my Power Point Viewer. If I choose to "Browse" in the dialogue box Power Point Viewer is not listed among the choices to open the file with. I do not know hot to or if I can add the PP Viewer to this list.

Power Point Viewer 2007 is installed in the following location on Windows XP systems (automatically installed in this location by the installer):

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\PPTVIEW.EXE

You need to update your plugins. It is important to keep them updated due to continuing security fixes and improvements in those plug-ins:

  • Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.5 (you MAY need to update)
  1. Check your plugin versions: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
    • Note: plugin check page does not have information on all plugin versions
  1. Update Shockwave for Director
    • NOTE: this is not the same as Shockwave Flash; this installs the Shockwave Player.
    • Use Firefox to download and SAVE the installer to your hard drive from the link in the article below (Desktop is a good place so you can find it).
    • When the download is complete, exit Firefox (File > Exit)
    • locate and double-click in the installer you just downloaded, let the install complete.
    • Restart Firefox and check your plugins again.

Helper 7677: Thank you for your response. My plug-ins are up to date. All I am trying to do is add my Power Point Viewer 2007 to the list of choices listed in the "Browse" Box when I try to open a PPS file I receive in an email.

I went into Tools/Options/Applications and saw pps file application types and under the "action" column it had "always ask" listed. When I clicked on "other" a drop down box came up and "Microsoft Office Power Point Viewer" logo and title came up so I chose that on each of the .pps file type apps. I thought my problems would be over because then it would be added to the "browse" list when I chose to open the file. But, no such luck. It's still not on my list of choices to "Open With". Also, in the Tools/Options/Apps list the MS Office PP Viewer I chose is now titled "Use 2007 Microsoft Office Component". Don't know if that makes any difference.

I'm a "technically challenged" woman who just wants to add this tool to my "Open With" list. Can you tell me how to do that in simple steps? Thank you very much for taking your time and interest. DS
