Can you show us what happens when you try from this site? https://www.irs.gov/downloads/irs-pdf

File was too large, here it is resized...

Hmm, not a lot of information there. If you click the "Failed" message, Firefox hopefully will give more details. Anything there?

Any difference if you set Firefox to let you choose the download folder on the Settings page:

Clicking on the failed download does nothing.

My settings are as what you show: Save files to Download, and the box is checked for Always Ask..., but i am not asked...???

Maybe uninsatll & a new install ?

Down loading pdfs from IRS works so can you provide steps to replicate your issue with the failed download?

Also, have you done a normal shutdown and restart of Windows since this problem began?

Yes, I have restarted and and done a full shutdown and start up more than ince.

As for downloading the irs docs, all I did was go to the link you provided above and click on the first document, got a "failed" to download

Any difference if you turn OFF "Always ask you where to save files"? In that case, Firefox won't need to call a Windows Save dialog, in case that is the bottleneck.

Can you think of any filters that may be modifying or blocking requests from your browsers? I don't know why security software or parental control software would block downloads from the IRS, but... just in case.

You might also want to set Firefox to ignore any system-level proxy server. On the Settings page -- either

  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Settings (previously "Options")
  • type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

-- you'll find a tiny search box near the top of the page. Type proxy and Firefox should filter to the "Settings" button, which you can click.

Select "No proxy", then click the OK button at the bottom.

Any difference?

None of this helps, I still cannot download any pdf files from any site I have tried, and there are a few other file types that will not download.

And I have not made any changes in the security software I use

jscher2000, I found and fixed my download problem!!!

Had to reset permissions for my Downloads folder - have no idea what changed then, but everything is good now.

Thanks for all your suggestions
