Firefox won't show web history. (only after quite some times)

Hello,

When I visit any website, normally I would expect to be stored in crt+H (history) TAB. Yet, after visiting the website, it does not show up there.

Only after a few hours the visited website will show up in the history tab.

PS: This happens on the same device, the sync option between them works fine. After the few hours have passed and the websites have shown in the original computer, they will instantly sync across all other devices. And yes, I have checked the setting from top to bottom.

Any ideas how to deal with this or am I the only one with this problem?

Sometimes low activity like this is indicative of low resources.

There are some things you can try:

1) Log out of the FF account, and test the issue under this scenario

2) Temporarily disable all the start up apps in windows "and" also temporarily disable all the add-on & extenstions in FF. Then retry FF.

3) Create a new profile and temporarily test the issue and ability to immediately record your history.

btw: Are you also logged into the FF account and have the FF sync constantly enabled during the time the issue is resulting?

I have 16GB with 1050Ti and i5-8500 so the resources are not the problem.

1. Done, nothing has changed. 2. I had this problem ever since I've installed FF so I doubt this is the issue. 3. For that I would need a new email address.

Yes, I am logged in and the sync is constantly on.

PS: From your response I assume that this problem is a new one and it looks like I am the only one experiencing it, so I'll try to figure it out at some point if you are also unsure about it.

thanks for the additional info.

my primary suggestion is to turn off the snycing. this feature may in fact be causing the delay because things are being uploaded in real time and consistently.

so my suggestion is to only enable the syncing, aka logging into the FF account, occassionally when you are ready to upload your data. Afterwards, log out of the FF account.

After some more research I came up with this:

It looks like FF stores the history instantly, but it's just not showing it in the history list. (I would've expected to have the latest sites at the top of the list).

Instead, I have to use the "search history" option. If I am trying to look for the visited page manually, it won't appear. It shows up only when I search for it with the search option (I've tried this with a brand new website that I've never visited before to make sure I won't get results from the past).

The issue is that if I am trying to go back to a website that I don't know the name of anymore, I will have difficulties accessing it again.

yes. i agree with the importance of the "history" in the manner your described.

what might be a trick and see if the issue doesnt present itself in another aspect of FF is trying to add the "library" and "history" buttons to the toolbar and see if the data is manipulated better.

sometimes its possible that different elements will manage/manipulate data separately and differently.

the red arrows in attached pic show the history buttons after customizing the toolbar.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support to see if that has effect.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

This can be caused by a problem with the places.sqlite (bookmarks and history) and favicons.sqlite databases in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> #More tsg!# Information" (about:support) page

If errors are reported with "Verify Integrity", close and restart Firefox or reboot and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You lose the history when a new places.sqlite is created.
