Change default keywords for bookmarks *, history ^ and tabs % search shortcuts in the address bar

Is there a way to change the default keywords for the bookmarks (*), history (^) and tabs (%) search shortcuts in the address bar?

Is that possible by changing an about:config setting or using an add-on?

In my case, the default keywords are really inconvenient. With a German keyboard, the ^ character does not appear directly after pressing the key a single time. To enter the keyword for history followed by a space into the address bar, I have to press the ^ key and afterwards two times the space bar on my keyboard. Other users might not know the fastest way of doing it and require even more steps (f.e. pressing ^ twice, then deleting one ^ character and pressing the space bar once).

In general, it would be useful to be able to adjust these keywords to the users' own preferences.
