duplicate of /questions/1224847 to keep in one thread.

Firefox is requesting permission to allow app lonlingdom.cool I can not find any information on this is it legitimate The request is part of a Firefox update, when I click on install I get the request to allow the app, the update will not install unless I allow the app which makes me suspect it is not legitimate. Firefox will not run without installing the update. I deleted Firefox, downloaded it and installed it, I then again get the update request. Am happy to allow it if I can confirm it is OK I have already asked this question but inadvertently changed the status to solved and can not find out how to change it back to open.

This is not something that comes from Firefox. The vanilla version of Firefox doesn't have any addons installed on it and will not ask for permissions like this.

There is likely an unwanted extension that has been installed on Firefox.

In order to uninstall a possibly unwanted extension, please do the following:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. Once the Add-on Manager has opened in a new tab, click the Extensions button on the left side of the window.
  3. You should now see a list of your installed extensions on the right side together with buttons on the right side of each extension.
  4. To remove an extension from Firefox, simply click the Remove button. You should see a message that informs you about the successful removal of the add-on.
  5. Note that some add-ons require a Firefox restart to be removed completely. To perform a Firefox restart after the add-on removal, click the Restart now link in the message.

You can find further information about uninstalling extensions in the following articles:

You may want to also check the security of your system by scanning for malware. You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista if you don't already have one. Windows 8/10 have antivirus protection built-in.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
