Site does not display properly in Firefox, It is OK in IE, Opera, Chrome, and Safari for Windows

Example: https://www.stuftpizzabarandgrill.com/catering/ AND MANY OTHERS

Pages do not display properly and are difficult or impossible to read only in FF. This is a regular problem on many sites, not just this one.

In this particular page, FF displays black text on a very dark gray background. I just checked it in IE, Chrome, Opera, and Safari for Windows and they all show white text, making it readable.

This is obviously a problem with the way FF displays pages and ONLY FF.

Using Vista but that should not be an issue. All the other browsers checked show the page properly.

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

I had no problem with the link you posted.

Type about:preferences#content<enter> in the address bar. Across from fonts and colors, press the Advanced button. On the bottom, turn on Allow Web Sites To Choose Their Own.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Then WHY do "I" have this problem?

Is this a problem with "settings"?

If so, why is that setting available?

Thanks.

What you do describe isn't normal Firefox behaviour. The page you noted displays normal for me. Please answer the following questions:

1.) Please tell us your FF version 2.) Please post a list of installed extensions 3.) Please post your installed plugins you can find that information in the "Add-Ons" menu. the firefox version is displayed in the "Help"->"About Firefox" menu.

also, please check fred's adivce.

It could possibly be a problem with settings, but the problem has to be narrowed down first. Some users might need some particular option, even if it renders firefox unusable, so it is there.

it might be due to a defective extension/plugin, something your tried out (or not), or even a virus/searchbar/something_like_that (don't wanna make panic, but you never know.). such malware often changes settings or leads to unwanted behaviour in some other way.

Hey, I have just found out how to see your Firefox version :D Update it, for god's sake!

Your version is 52, current version is 56. Not updating your Firefox version can lead to major secuirty risks and makes it easy for viruses to infect your system when you open a mallicious webpage.

Also, you should disable the following plugins:

NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java(TM) Deploy
Next Generation Java Plug-in 11.31.2 for Mozilla browsers

and update the others to current versions.

dehe25 மூலமாக திருத்தப்பட்டது

Latest FF version 52.3.0 but has been a problem with many previous versions.

Don't know why the following extensions are installed: Disable DHE Firebug

Plugins; I don't see that any plug-ins are active. In looking at the plugin list most say "ask to activate" so none are activated automatically. I thought that there were some plugins installed for automatic activation but the list does not show any that I remember adding.

The following show "always activate" but I have no idea what they are and what they do. I don't remember installing them. OpenH264... Widevine Content Decryption...

I believe that these were automatically installed by the FF software.

Hope this helps.

I have automatic updating. Went to download the latest version and found it was 52.3, the one I have so did not do anything.

Remember, this has been going on for several years, not a recent problem.

Ah, ok - I see. The version-problem is because you are using Vista. Mozila has ended development of Firefox for Vista with version 52.

OpenH264 (a video codec) should be fine, Widevine (DRM) too.

About the extensions: Disable DHE is for disabling Diffie Hellman in TLS. Shouldn't be much of a problem. Maybe you could try disabling Firebug? It's a tool for inspecting webpages. There are cases where Firebug is the cause for pages not being displayed correctly.

Also check FredMcD's answer concerning the settings.

You should really consider updating your OS to at least Windows 7, because Microsoft has ended support for Vista in april, which means that there are no more security updates. Bugs will stay unfixed.

Hope this helps, Dennis

Microsoft says I cannot upgrade my computer, even to Windows 7.

This problem has been there for several years, not a recent problem. It has nothing to do with the version. It is a very old problem that continued through multiple versions.

Low specs? Okay, that's bad. That thing about the version was only an adivce due to secuirty reasons.

Most likely, it's the Firebug extension or the settings.

Disabled firebug and restarted FF. Not the problem and the problem probably predates the installation of Firebug anyway.

i hate your problem. it's about to become my personal enemy :)

Could you please send me your settings file? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Prefs.js_file

It's located in your profile folder, which can be accessed this way: "For Windows users

On Windows systems, the default location of the profile folder containing your user data is under the "Application Data" folder in Windows XP and below or under the "AppData\Roaming" folder in Windows Vista and above. In Windows 2000 and above, these folders are hidden. To find your profile folder in Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10:

Press [Windows Key]+[R] → Type in %APPDATA% → click OK

A Windows Explorer window will open, showing the contents of the C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data folder (Windows 2000 and XP) or the C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming folder (Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10). You can then open successive folders until you get to the profile folder.

If you want to browse to the default profile folder locations for Windows 2000 or later you will need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders in your Windows Folder Options. You can also search for specific files in your profile folder using Windows Search. In Windows 2000 you must first enable viewing of hidden files and folders; in Windows XP and Vista, you must enable searching for hidden files and folders in the Search tool itself. If you need more help viewing or searching hidden files and folders in Windows 2000 or later, see this article. " source: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder

I am at the FF profiles folder. There are a ton of directories and files. Which one(s) do you need to look at? It would take forever to provide everything!

My original question is still the issue. Why is it ONLY FF that display pages incorrectly? All the other browsers I tested with display the sample page correctly.

you can enter prefs.js in the search bar of windows explorer i don't know the reason for the error yet, so it's hard to say. but the fact that it's only firefox at least says that it's most probably no malware, but something that can be fixed through configuration. due to the fact that the problem is not common amongst other users, it also doesn't seem to be a bug. it's possible to destroy other browser's settings, too. there's probably an error existing in firefox concerning ssl in some configurations which prevents CSS files from being loaded on insecure setups, but i'm still searching for it.

also, i would like to mention FF 52.x ESR again. you can download it here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ don't know if it's available for vista.

dehe25 மூலமாக திருத்தப்பட்டது

for excluding the ssl error: 1.) Do you have ESET antivirus installed? It can also cause such errors. 2.) Please open the pizza page and click on the "lock" icon left to your adress bar. Please tell me what it says. 3.) is your system time set correctly?

dehe25 மூலமாக திருத்தப்பட்டது

Last idea except copying your config: 1.) Open the pizza page 2.) hit ctrl+shift+J 3.) copy the content of the window that comes up and paste it here

Thank you for trying to help. Yes, it is a FF issue as you said.

Several answers here.

Still "searching" for prefs.js. It is taking forever.

Clicking on the lock on the referenced web page says that the connection is not secure. Keep in mind that the problem probably occurs on NON-https sites too. I would think that this is a "display" issue not connected to whether or not it is https or http.

From the ESR web page:

Windows Operating Systems (32-bit and 64-bit)

   Windows 7
   Windows Server 2003 SP1
   Windows 8
   Windows 10

Please note that 64-bit builds of Firefox are only supported on Windows 7 and higher.

Windows XP/Vista/Server 2003 are no longer supported by regular Firefox releases. These users should migrate to ESR 52.

This is confusing. It says it needs Win 7 or higher but then says use ESR 52, which is the same. Also, it says it is NOT for individual users, just large groups.

You're welcome. I'm sory that it takes that much time.

I'll wait :)

It's correct. even though the page has SSL, some page elements are being loaded without ssl ("mixed content") - that's the SSL error i was refering to. When you click on the lock, then on the right-arrow, and then hit the button that apears, does the page show correctly?

From the ESR web page:

The information on the page is really ambiguous. It's simply wrong ^^ The ESR is said to be used for large groups because individual users should be using the most current version of firefox, which is 55 oder 56 and not possible in your case. Technically, it makes no difference, except that it still receives updates even though its an old version.
