We get intermittent "Secure Connection Failed" pages when going to https://www.uvacreditunion.com. This does not happen in other browsers. I noticed several posts in the forum about different issues with the same messages, but not are the same as this . https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=uvacreditunion.org produces an A- rating. Tried the logjam test too and it was negative. The issue can be reproduced by pressing CTRL + F5 and refreshing the page rapidly (two or three presses in a row). However, it happens every once in a while on page load. I have also tried the "about:config" method and adding the site to security.tls.insecure_fallback_hosts. I have also tried most of the things mentioned in the support article for troubleshooting "Secure Connection Failed" like running in safe mode, turning off hardware acceleration, and disabling extension (no extensions running btw). This seems to have started as of Firefox 37.

If you can't inspect the certificate via "I Understand the Risks" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website.

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then you can attach a screenshot that shows the certificate viewer.

There is security software like Avast and Kaspersky that intercept secure connections and send their own certificate.

If you have Avast then try to disable HTTPS scanning in Avast Web Shield.

The site has a valid certificate. This does not happen 100% of the time, but only occurs from Firefox. There is no need to "inspect the certificate".

It's not about the site having a valid certificate, but about the certificate that is presented to Firefox.

If there is other software intercepting the connection and is sending its own certificate or is otherwise interfering then the connection in Firefox fails, so you need to check the certificate in Firefox like I wrote above.
