Thunderbird won't work
this thread can explain my situation

I am puzzled. I just created a new gmail account and set it up in Thunderbird with IMAP. It "just works" for me; but then it didn't challenge me with the 2 step verification. As wdurham said, google and Thunderbird make a natural pair. The gmail set-up is pretty much hard coded into Thunderbird.
Are there any exotic characters in your password? Some non-alphanumeric characters are not supported by the protocols used by email, but are supported via http, which you use when going directly to the website in your browser. So a password that works in one context may not work in the other.
My password is just a normal one, with lower and upper case characters and ofcourse numbers.
I don't get it why it doesn't work.
As you may noticed I tried everything, meanwhile like you said you just it works fine for you without doing anything special.
As you may see, everything is in default and I just entered my credentials and it says that my username/password is wrong. http://puu.sh/aW2BD/54d1bab5ec.png
Anyone? Please!
