Are you clearing Firefox data on Exit?

If so, that is probably why the firefox.exe process is getting "hung". The related Bug was fixed this past week, and (hopefully) it shouldn't be a problem in Firefox 30 which is slated for release on Tues June 10th, as Moses mentioned.

Firefox has 32bit only, but it works fine with 64bit.

We have the Testing version of 64bit

So that's it, that's the entire answer?

If I have to go to the task manager each time I want to start Firefox & "end task" I would not say " it works fine".

How long has 64bit been around or is it just brand new with 8.1. Sorry for my directness, but that just does not measure up to what Firefox standards have been. But thanks for the try.

There are 64-bit Releases of Firefox for Mac OSX and Linux that have been out ever since Firefox 4.0 but not for Windows. It is a combined 32/64 for Mac and separate 32/64-bit downloads on Linux. Firefox is a 32-bit application but works just fine for 64-bit systems. As Jay mentioned, 64-bit versions of Firefox are only used in the Nightly build and are not recommended for normal use as they are mostly used for testing.

The issue you are describing is a current bug in Firefox but the problem is probably already solved in Firefox 30b8. Others have reported that they no longer see the issue

Note if you do install the Beta do NOT use any option to remove personal information or you will destroy bookmarks and passwords etc. If you install the Beta you may do that over the top of the ordinary Fx29.0.n Release. No need even to uninstall Fx29 first.

Here's the link to the Beta if you want to try it out

And just how would I get this "Beta 30b8" to fix this problem, please? As this is very irritating.

Thank you

The latest beta can be downloaded from mozilla.org/firefox/beta

Keep in mind that Firefox 30 (which contains this fix) will be released on June 10th. So you can either wait for 30 or you can try out Beta and then uninstall Beta then reinstall 30 when it's released. Your bookmarks and everything else should be imported over when you are done with the Beta.

This is not a cure but will make it easier if Firefox locks up. <strike>support.mozilla.org/ questions/997866</strike> {web link}

edit: not recommended.

Thank you for the info, I will await the 10th.

Thats just nuts. As much as I love *nix OS's, LINUX is a tiny percent of the PC desktop world. Supporting them with a 64 bit version and not WINDOWS is about as smart as having a gas station that supplies TESLA electrical connections for TESLA cars... and hydrogen for hydrogen fuel cell buses (there are a few of them out there), but does not have any LPG or gasoline (a very good way to kill your gas station).

64 bit Windows has been around for some time now. Will the folk at Mozilla care to join the 21st century with the rest of us? Or perhaps they would prefer going backward and opt out on silly notions like "FIRE" and the "WHEEL" too?

This is an old thread. If you have an issue with Firefox, please create a new thread

For Linux it was easy to get to stable Release as 64-bit Linux builds were on the then Trunk for over two years before Fx 4.0 for to catch breakage/regressions since it was possible to break 64-bit but not 32-bit.

Anyways Win64 is coming in phases with Firefox 37.0 being earliest Release perhaps. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/win64
