You probably have an unwanted extension that is adding the toolbar as well as trying the download. Please disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or if possible Remove).

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that get rid of the toolbar?

Two other things:

(1) Check for a user.js file in your settings folder, as described in this article: How to fix preferences that won't save

(2) Supplement your regular security scans with a few extras. This article lists tools that other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware
