Profile Missing Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.
^This message comes up when I try to open Firefox on my MacBook Pro. I've been using it a long time but it crashed during an update. I've tried the other troubleshooting issues, and I do not seem to have any files in the Library or Application Support. I am NOT a techie and I have no idea what I am doing. Please help! ASAP!

See Starting the Profile Manager, if starts correctly then create a profile (it is in the previous link) and we are ok. then probably you are able to transfer data from your old profile (it is in my large reply).
any luck ?

Hello puttricia, you mean that you have no profiles.ini file in /Macintosh HD/Users/<username>/Library/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
or /Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>
see also : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders#Mac_OS_X
do you have the profile.ini file in there ?
thank you
My Library is right inside my Macintosh HD/Library....
I do not have a file named "Firefox" in my Application Support.
I do not have a file named "Mozilla" in my Library.
seek in Macintosh HD > Applications > Firefox
is firefox there ?
Yes, it is there. I even reinstalled it. I am still getting the same message.
OK, now....open the profile folder and then find profiles.ini file and rename it to profiles.iniOLD , then when you start firefox again, a new default profile folder will be created and only a single profile(and of course will never see the message 'profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible') the new "default", will be listed in the Profile Manager.
This new "default" profile doesn't contain any of the profile data or settings stored in your old "default" profile folder, which still exists but is no longer accessible from the Profile Manager.
Your existing Firefox user profile data, which includes bookmarks, passwords, cookies, preference settings and added extensions, will no longer appear in the new profile but you cantransfer the data from the old profile folder to the new default profile folder.

it is a little tricky, but you can do it, step by step.
thank you
I cannot get to my program folder.
can you open the above folder (Firefox) from : Macintosh HD > Applications > Firefox, and see if the profile.ini file is there ?
The Applications folder only has the application file in it and it won't let me open that. There is no Firefox folder.
Any luck here?
- /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
No "Firefox" folder in my Application Support.
Does someone know their way around enough to remote troubleshoot it?
I cannot handle it anymore. I am downloading Chrome. I want my Firefox back. If anyone can figure it out, please let me know.
Hello puttricia, there should be a profiles.ini file somewhere in your mac, otherwise you wouldn't get this error.
In mac go from File drop-down list, select Find, in the upper-right corner of window, your cursor will automatically be placed in the text box, write profiles.ini to see if we can find it somewhere in your mac.
No, it cannot find it. Nothing pops up when I search for it.
Open a Terminal window and type/check the next commands to see IF we can create a new profile, but i don't think that works !
/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -CreateProfile test
OR
/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -CreateProfile test
any luck ?
The first one said "No such file or directory"
The second one said "Success: created profile 'test' at '/Users/douglehman/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xgfa6sz2.test/prefs.js'

you are welcome, but to be honest...... I did not think that would solve that.
