See http://www.zdnet.com/article/mozilla-abandons-firefox-tracking-protection-initiative/?tag=nl.e539&s_cid=e539&ttag=e539&ftag=TRE17cfd61

ZDnet is now a division of CBS Interactive; link published and received today.

"Tracker-blocking programs could be maintained as assiduously as antimalware programs. If that had happened in recent years, we would have seen continuous improvement in Microsoft's tracking protection implementation, for example, with regular updates to the TPLs. Instead, the feature has been essentially abandoned--kept in Internet Explorer as a checklist item but not maintained at all.

"Mozilla appears to be heading down the same road. The Bugzilla page for the feature hasn't had a comment in many months. It's not listed for inclusion in any of the next three Firefox releases, and there's no sign that the feature will ever become official, much less be maintained or expanded."

Hi Bill, An interesting subject, but not the best place to post about it.

My tracking protection is on by default, although I have specifically turned it off for this forum.

Far from secret it is documented and blogged about

Here at support.mozilla.org we have already published a help article on the feature, which is described as experimental

The comment about the bug probably indicate a misunderstanding of the purpose and use of the still active tracking bug.

The feature is also (edit a separte feature ) prominently promoted on the main Firefox page

and Tracking Protection continues to be blogged about

As for what is happening or planned for this experimental feature I am afraid this is not the place to discuss Development Policy or Decisions.

May I suggest you try one of the official mailing lists (also copied to google groups). Although we can not have a discussion here you are welcome to post back into this thread to cross link any discussion you have elsewhere in Mozilla if it is considered on topic there. (Should this thread be locked send me a pm ) Sorry I can not be certain which list would consider this subject to be on topic.
