Is Firefox getting beat in general performance by Chrome? Videos are skipping, scrolling is jumpy, and these are not issues in Chrome with the same content.
I am a long-time evangelist of Firefox, mainly because of the customization, the plugins, and other premier features. But every video I play lately is really skippy, and scrolling is quite jumpy as well. I didn't think much of it until I pulled up the same content (on the same connection) in Chrome, and none of the issues exist.
At that point, I noticed that responses to clicks and text entry into form boxes was a lot more responsive in Chrome as well.
I am just becoming aware of this; are these long-standing deficiencies, or are they new problems? Are there any hopes of correcting these issues?

It is possible that you are seeing problems caused by Flash (these issues have exists since Flash 11.3 and Adobe is still working on fixing them). Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox and Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again have some possible solutions. Chrome won't show these issues as Chrome bundles it's version of Flash player.
You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
- disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
- disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
- disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
