already on firefox 4 ver 1.8 and my computer is constantly trying to update to another version

I have firefox /yahoo browser. The progress bar comes up for a few seconds and immediately goes back to the screen asking me to download the update even though it says it has already.I using on pc with win xp-pro. Getting to be rather annoying.

This is most likely caused by AVG Safe Search which you appear to have installed.

Click the Firefox button, then go to Add-ons, then Extensions and disable it in there.

After that, click Help | About Firefox and then click the Check For Updates button.
