Emoji input on macOS not working after switching to German language

On macOS one can insert Emoji characters with the short cut CTRL + CMD + Space. This works fine, when Firefox is set to English, but when I switch the Language to German, the short cut no longer works.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Each language may have a different set of keyboard shortcuts native to the language and what is in English could be assigned different shortcuts in German.
