I made a filter so that all mail from my Gmail account is automatically forwarded to my Comcast email and then put in Trash in the Gmail account. The filter does the job too well. I get the email sent to my Comcast mail several times before it is finally put in the Trash in Gmail. How do I stop this repetitive action so that the mail is forwarded one time only?

I would suggest you delete the filter, log into the gmail web site and set up email forwarding to the comcast address.

Personally I would be doing the exact reeves if I was doing anything at all but preferably I would be downloading to Thunderbird and deleting the mail from all the web server.
