Firefox opens any link that I click on as if it were downloading a file.

A lot (very nearly all) links that I click on with the left mouse button, instead of taking me to the website/page, open a small box as if it were downloading a file (Following image shown when trying to connect to a youtube channel -- http://i.imgur.com/FC7tHkM.png). If I click on "OK" to open the file, then I am taken to the website though a lot of flash scripts or images won't load or work, and the URL becomes something like this -- http://i.imgur.com/L50I88E.png. It even happens with this very support site, though CTRL-Clicking and Shift-clicking DO work, and that's the only reason I was able to get this far to ask a question. Any help would be appreciated.

hello, can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once? if not, maybe an addon is interfering here...

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.
