When downloading, I used to get an indicator in the taskbar telling me % complete. When I updated Firefox it broke this feature.

When a download is in progress then you see a download progress bar on the Navigation Toolbar showing an estimate of the remaining time instead of the Download Manager button and that button is highlighted once the download has finished to make you aware the their are new downloads.

You can view the new Download Manager in a tab by opening the about:downloads page and consider to open this page in a separate window.

Hi EtherJones, do you mean you had a separate tile/button for the Firefox Download Manage on the Windows task bar? (On Windows 7, these all get stacked up, and I can't remember Windows XP that well.) Or was the bar within Firefox, e.g., on the Status bar/Add-on bar?

Firefox 20 introduced a new Download Panel in place of the old Download Manager. The full list of downloads moved to the Library dialog. There is a description and video about this here: Where to find and manage downloaded files in Firefox.

The download arrow should appear on your main Navigation toolbar, although you can move it to the Add-on bar if you prefer using the Customize feature. It shows a very tiny progress bar and when you click it, it shows the status of your currently active downloads. However, I'm not aware of a way to push that information down to the Windows task bar.

Yes. There was a button on the task bar, showing % complete. I could even close Firefox and the button would remain there until the download was complete. I would get a separate button for each concurrent download. I want this feature back. I don't want to have to keep Firefox on my screen in order to see the download progress. How do I configure the "updated" Firefox to get this feature back, do you know?

I never noticed that, so I don't have a good sense of how it was created.

You can switch from the Download Panel back to the separate Download Manager window. But it's a single window. See: Got new version, want to go back to previous download box.

Maybe the separate windows were created by an add-on?

How do I break this feature. I have it and don't want it. No option to disable it is provided.

Hi joe_blaugh, if your question is how to change from the Firefox 20 style download panel back to the pre-Firefox 20 download manager, see this thread: Got new version, want to go back to previous download box, the new one has no history and doesn't show speed of download, how do I go back?
