I would like to ensure that when i have used the zoom feature to set page and fonts at a size I like that it stays that way - a default size, if you like. How can I do that, please? Usual apologies if this has been asked and answered before!

The Firefox Page Zoom feature does a domain by domain level of saving the users preferred zoom level settings, there is no default Page Zoom level setting in Firefox, as with some other browsers. If you clear browsing history, Firefox won't remember your preference for the pages that you zoom'd.
If you need to zoom all the pages you view, try the Default FullZoom Level extension:
