my misc.Downloads are not downloading properly

I have no idea where my downloaded files are going. I have gone to tools, options, general and downloads to adjust this, and I have tried both options of saving files and I am unable to get the Browse to browse and the location stays on Desktop (the downloaded file never goes there) and when choosing the other option of asking me where to save files it never does. There is also no history kept of any downloaded files. I also did a Search to see if I could find a particular downloaded file and I couldn't even find it that way. I also disabled my added on download programs to see if that would help, but thus far it hasn't. Anyone have any ideas????

I upgraded to 8.0, but I still cannot get the Browse button under Downloads to work. I also took off a few add ons to see if that helped, but thus far no change. Obviously something is causing a conflict and I don't know what.
