I have always had the "Toolbars" set for both Menu and "Navigation" buttons. The "View" drop down menu is always visible and zoom is under View. You can also hit ''CTRL +'' to zoom in. ''CTRL -'' to zoom out. ''CTRL 0'' to reset.
