FF and IE can't resolve but real player can
My father in-law's laptop can't resolve websites using FF or IE but it can with real player. There aren't any firewall or anti-virus software installed.

Vista comes with a firewall and av software.
Windows firewall and defender are both disabled.
Do a malware check with some malware scan programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.
