I've just tried turning on the free VPN, but websites like Imgur are still detecting that my connection is from the UK and are blocking my access. I understand this shouldn't happen, and doesn't happen with other VPNs.

That depends on your exit node. If it still in the U.K., imgur will be blocked. Can you check it on https://www.iplocation.net/ ?

Yeah, it's routing through Alabama US, but I'm still getting the UK blocks on Imgur. The website you linked finds my IP in Alabama, but a website like https://whatismyipaddress.com/ traces it back to Mozilla's server in London. It feels like some level of IP obfuscation isn't working with the Firefox VPN.
