Hi
Are you able to share a screenshot of the error message that you see when you visit those websites?
Please see screenshots, attached for the following websites:
The Atlantic: https://www.theatlantic.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzbDDj72d6gIVgq_ICh1V3Qu7EAAYASAAEgKMp_D_BwE
New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/27/business/economy/ai-investment-economic-growth.html
Thanks!
Are those screenshots from mobile/Android or from desktop/Windows-Mac-Linux?
The errors do not mention your IP address, and unless a botnet is operating from your home, I don't think that would be the usual problem.
Sites generally do not reveal their precise algorithm for determining whether a connection looks suspicious. You might consider whether an add-on that blocks annoying content or a privacy-related settings change could be the culprit.
One thing to try would be to turn off Tracking Protection for those sites. If the error page is on the destination server, you should be able to tap or click the shield icon at the left end of the address bar to find the slider switch for that.
No, I am not running a bot--at least not knowingly. The errors persist after turning off Tracking Protection for those sites, as directed. The problem arose just a few weeks ago and persists only on my desktop version of FF, where I have not added any new add-ons.
To test the add-ons, I restarted FF in Safe mode and the blocks were suddenly lifted. So, clearly at least one of my FF add-ons is at fault. I'll continue testing them one by one in order to identify and disable the offender(s). Thanks for your suggestions.
