i want to add another email address but just at the last step an error message appears on my laptop saying i cannot logon to server, probably wrong configuration or username or password. Strangely i have successfully added the same address on my desktop. Any suggestions/solutions ?

Generally the cause is actually the antivirus/firewall. Either blocking Thunderbird as "unknown software" or blocking the probing done to detect the account settings. What provider are you using?
