lightning calender not compatible with latest version why
I have used Thunderbird for a few years and never had a problem until now. I am on Linux Mint and I updated to Thunderbird 60.2.1 I just launched it and the calendar (lightning) is no longer compatible with this version, this is stupid, the calendar feature is an important and integral part of any email system! I have six months of appointments, tasks and events just wiped out why update when something important like the calendar is not going to work. Can this be fixed? if not Thunderbird is no longer fit for purpose.
I don't want to have to start messing around installing an earlier version

Thunderbird bundles Lightning with the Thunderbird installation package. So you always have the current version. That is unless someone in the Linux repository thinks we do it wrong and have fixed it for "their" users by unbundling it. I am aware of at least one repository that is doing so.
However it might just be that a restart is required for the update to complete.
Thanks - sudo apt install xul-ext-lightning has worked I now have Lightning back but I now have another issue, my contacts and addresses have now completely disappeared the icon is there but the folders are empty I have rebooted my PC and re started Thunderbird but nothing ?
Yes if I disable the add-ons in safe mode my full contact list is back and works fine, but when I restart Thunderbird with add-ons back (normal mode) the address book does not work, no contacts and doesn't allow to add a new contact

Did what you advised and still no Address book? but I have finally found the culprit, I have zoiper VoIP phone on my desktop and there is an add on for Thunderbird that links all my telephone numbers in my address book to the zoiper application, it runs on java and must have been causing a conflict so I disabled it and everything is working fine now so I have removed it. Anyway many thanks for your help I appreciate your input
